Covers Knight Rider @ Comic-Con '08: Bruce Davison!
One of the highest-profile actors signed for Knight
Rider is Bruce Davison, who will be playing Charles
Graiman on the series, reprising his role from the TV-movie.
We
were able to talk to him for a brief interview at the Comic-Con
International in San Diego. (Yep, we're STILL rolling those interviews
out!)
BE
WARNED OF [VERY MINOR] SPOILERS BELOW.
"I
am supposedly the inventor of the original KITT, going way back
into Knight Industries, and kind of know David's character Michael,
which is how we make the connection and bring us up to speed here,"
Davison says to describe his character. "Michael and I are
about the same age, and we're sort of the same era, so I guess
it's funny to say, but I guess I'm sort of the elder statesman,
carrying this into the new generation."
A
veteran of many high-profile series, one might wonder what it
was that made Knight Rider the right show to join as a
series regular. "It just seemed fun, you know? I've been
doing this for a long time, and suffered a lot with kids in comas
and evil senators and stuff. It just seemed like a kick. It just
seemed like it would be some fun to do, and I think people are
really ready to enjoy themselves," Davison says.
Despite
being aware of a great potential wave of fandom interested in
Knight Rider, Davison admits that he does not read the Internet
chatter. "I don't really follow it, because it's all speculation
and blogs from people's head. I remember all of the stuff that
came out of X-Men in the beginning, and it was like 'how dare
you not use yellow spandex. How dare you make Wolverine not short
and squat and from Canada, but a thin, tall guy from Australia!
What do you think you're doing!' Things change. It's enjoyable
to watch, but I'll wait until the dust settles," he says.
Knight
Rider premieres September 24 on NBC.
